Symphony No.5 in e Minor Op.64 IV.Andante maestoso Composer: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Conductor: Xia Xiaotang As a symphony often compared to Beethoven’s Symphony No.5, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 is also known as Tchaikovsky's “Symphony of Fate”. The Symphony portrays the theme “Fight against Fate”, depicting the composer’s struggles for a better future, and illustrates the theme of “light triumph over darkness”. Tone Poem at the Seashore Composer: Qin Yongcheng Orchestration: Zou Ye Violin: Jiang Shuai Conductor: Yu Long A violin solo composed by Qin Yongcheng, “Tone Poem at the Seashore” highlights its skillful plays from the violinist, as well as violin’s unique tone and its capability of holding onto long, emotional rhythms, taking the audience to the beach with the sounds of waves and breeze. At the concert celebrating the 20th birthday of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, the violin soloist Jiang Shuai performed a new version of this piece reorchestrated by Zou Ye.
