Level: Advanced Link to where to purchase the score: (http•••) Sally Whitwell Australia Award-winning Australian pianist and composer, Sally Whitwell maintains a busy freelance career from her base in Sydney. As a solo recording artist, Sally has four albums to her name. Her most recent release ‘I was flying’ is a collection of her own compositions in the art song, choral and chamber music genres, which enjoyed five weeks in the top ten of the ARIA Core Classical Charts, was nominated for the 2015 ARIA Award for Best Classical Album. As a vocal advocate for classical music by women composers, Sally was curator for a chamber music concert series in her home town Canberra: In Her Shoes featured music by women creatives across the centuries. Sally’s other great love is choral music. She is a staff conductor and pianist for Gondwana Choirs and Sydney Children’s Choir, with whom she has performed throughout Australia and in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Her choral and vocal ensemble compositions have been performed by Juice vocal ensemble, Gondwana Choirs, VOX (Sydney Philharmonia Choirs' youth ensemble), Moorambilla Voices, Leichhardt Espresso Chorus, Luminescence, Hunter Singers and the Woden Valley Youth Choir. Currently, Sally is concentrating on a number of composition projects, with several commissioned works soon to be premiered by Acacia Quartet, Ensemble Offspring, Gondwana Voices and Hunter Singers. Leichhardt Espresso Chorus Sydney Chamber Choir 2011
The Leichhardt Espresso Chorus brought the Inner West together for a night of singing and symphony to aid the victims of the tragic, January 2011, Queensland floods. Joining forces with the Marrickville Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Brass, Sydney Chamber Choir, The MLC Choir, soloists and 150 choristers from all over Sydney, the concert was held at Marrickville Town Hall on Sunday 6 February. "It's vital at this time for musicians to share what they can do to help the flooded communities of Queensland" says Artistic Director of LEC Michelle Leonard. The concert raised $11,500 for the Premier's Disaster Relief Fund.
