To celebrate our return to the stage, we’ve created a short musical film featuring some of our treasured artists and staff members. The film takes you on a journey from our rehearsal studios and workshop at The Opera Centre to the stage of the Sydney Opera House. Natalie Aroyan, Diego Torre and Anna-Louise Cole all appear alongside the Opera Australia Orchestra and Opera Australia Chorus, bringing to life some of opera’s most magical music. This film was made after almost ten months away from the stage — the longest interval in our 64-year history — as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. It celebrates the extraordinary talents, passion and resilience of our artists and sees them return to the building we call our Sydney home: the Sydney Opera House. MUSIC Pietro Mascagni, 'Intermezzo' from Cavalleria Rusticana Giacomo Puccini, 'Vissi d'arte' from Tosca Richard Wagner, 'Dich, teure Halle' from Tannhäuser Giacomo Puccini, 'Nessun Dorma' from Turandot Directed by Joshua Dang.

Giuseppe Verdi's captivating music is performed with the orchestra concealed in a studio beneath the stage to ensure the finest amplified sound combines with the superlative singing of the cast. With the singers discreetly miked, the recorded sound is presented here in superb quality. Emma Matthews is continually being garnered with praise - 'Emma Matthews could inspire the dead, turning in one of the finest readings of this role I've ever heard' (International Record Review on Rigoletto), 'As Gilda, Emma Matthews is outstanding' (Opera Now on Rigoletto) / and doesn't disappoint.
