Studied with Nikolajs Vanadziņš, Ādolfs Skulte and Lūcija Garūta. He has written about 100 opuses of symphonic, organ, piano, chamber and choir music. His works have been played in concerts around the world, published in editions such as Bärenreiter, Edition Peters and have won several composition awards, e.g. symphonic work "Musica Dolente" - dedicated to the victims of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. His works are included in many CD's of the great musicians and collectives such as Iveta Apkalna and Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. He has performed solo recitals, included participating in dozens of important international organ festivals, and toured with various ensembles throughout North America, Colombia, almost all European countries, and Asia, including prestigious venues as Notre Dame de Paris (only Latvian who had three recitals there), Musikverein, West Point Military Academy Cadet Chapel with largest pipe organ in the world. Kalējs is known as an enthusiast in search of undervalued works by famous composer and music by forgotten composers. Six solo CDs and participation in many CD recordings. He has performed with countless national symphony orchestras and collectives such as Kremerata Baltica and State Choir Latvija, as well as collaborations with many great musicians such as conductors Andris Nelsons and Pierre Cao, violinist Gidon Kremer, soprano Inessa Galante, French horn player Arvīds Klišāns, violist Maxim Novikov and cellist Alexander Kniazew. Organist Aivars Kalējs performs Adagio in G minor (best known as "Albinoni's Adagio") by Remo Giazzoto in the Riga Dom Cathedral at the organ by "E.F. Walcker & Sons". Remo Giazotto +••.••(...)) was an Italian musicologist, music critic, and composer, mostly known through his systematic catalogue of the works of Tomaso Albinoni. Giazotto is famous for his publication of a work called Adagio in G minor, which he claimed to have transcribed from a manuscript fragment of an Albinoni sonata that he had received from the Saxon State Library Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni +••.••(...)) was an Italian Baroque composer. While famous in his day as an opera composer, he is mainly remembered today for his instrumental music, such as the concertos, some of which are regularly recorded.
