Spring Song by Alfred Hollins, played by David Aprahamian Liddle on the two-manual and pedal Courcelle chamber organ belonging to The Arabesque Trust for Blind Pipe Organists. You will see and hear frantic manoeuvres to operate by hand the stops of the Courcelle organ, as well as some memorabilia pertaining to Felix Aprahamian. 'Automatic volume control' plays some tricks with the dynamics in this piece.

William Faulkes +••.••(...)): Meditation in G-major William Faulkes +••.••(...)) was born in Liverpool in 1863 and was a student of William Dawson (Liverpool). He worked for almost five decades as an organist at St Margaret's Church in Anfield, a district of Liverpool. The exceptionally productive composer left around 500 printed organ works, from short miniatures to demanding concert pieces. Although Faulkes' neo-romantic, sometimes sentimental musical language was frowned upon as old-fashioned after his death, many of his organ works are worth rediscovering. In addition to the music of his contemporaries Edwin Lemare, Alfred Hollins and William Wolstenholme, Faulkes' compositions were among the most frequently played organ repertoire in Great Britain between 1900 and 1930. His imaginative but calm “Meditation” in G major in A-B-A form was composed in 1910. An expressive Cantilena can be heard in the corner parts, played alternately on Clarinet 8 'and Orchestral Flute 4' of the Solo work. The faster middle section, in the style of a Mendelssohn Song Without Words, is played with the 8-foot foundation stops of the Great and Swell divisions. The organ in the Town Hall in Dunedin, built in 1919 by the English workshop Hill, Norman & Beard (Norwich), has an eventful past. Originally built as a transportable open-air organ, it came to New Zealand in the South Pacific in 1929 after various locations in England, where it has since found a new home in the Great Hall of the Town Hall of Dunedin, in the south of the South Island. After a last restoration and expansion in 1995, the instrument has 75 stops, including the pedal Open Diapason 32‘, which was added in 1929 and whose pipes adorn the mighty front. Derived from the name of the builder, the citizens of Dunedin named their town hall organ affectionately "Norma".
