Double bass bears lots of potential to be an excellent solo instrument, save for two really serious problems: in a big concert hall it sounds dark and muddy - and it lacks top quality compositions, like world-class quality concertos with orchestra, or sonatas and short pieces for the recitals with piano... possibly as a logical result of the first problem. Božo Paradžik explains the main problems and historic errors on the way of double bass to get established as a solo instrument.
