Daniel Negreanu is one of the most accomplished players in the history of poker. He has six WSOP (World Series of Poker) bracelets, two WPT (World Poker Tour) titles, and is a regular on shows like High Stakes Poker and the EPT (European Poker Tour) circuit. In this edition of Poker Hands, Doug analyzes a hand between Daniel and Dan Colman in the Big One For One Drop. In case you haven't heard, this is a tournament with a staggering $1,000,000 buy-in. This isn't your grandpa's home game. This event attracts all the big names, such as Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Antonio Esfandiari, and even Doug Polk himself. In this hand, Negreanu takes a very interesting line that leaves Colman bewildered at the showdown. Was Kid Poker just clicking buttons, or was there a deeper method to this madness? Doug dives in and gives his analyses on this tv poker situation. Poker Hands is a series in which Doug analyzes televised hands and shares his thoughts. New episodes are uploaded every Monday (and sometimes Thursday). FOLLOW DOUG: Snapchat ► (http•••) Twitter ► (http•••) Instagram ► (http•••) Facebook ► (http•••) Twitch ► (http•••) #GrindNation
Michael Gormley organist of Christ Church Cathedral Victoria, BC. This is an unreleased test recording that was recorded (to check the levels and the sound set-up) in an the empty Cathedral in around 2005-06 for a radio program. Christ Church Cathedral Victoria, BC, is a very large building, and the recording equipment was set up in the middle of the nave. This is an ideal place to hear/record the large organ, that "speaks" from high up in the west gallery above the west end of the church, above the narthex. The reason this is an ideal location, is that it allows the lower frequencies to propagate as they should, since the low bass sound waves from the two 32ft (pitch) stops, can fully "resolve", In simple language: sound great! The music is the last two thirds of Cesar Franck's "Chorale #3 in A minor" (from the "oboe" stop solo part). This is classic romantic French organ music from the late 19th century. For the average listener it means that is is quite dramatic, and in many places will show off the full organ to spectacular effect (such as: Widor's famous Toccata in F minor). As I said this was a test recording, and the Franck piece here is only the last portion. You will hear it start quietly and gradually build up, until towards the end, when the massive sound of the 32ft stops enter, plus the full organ. These sound waves go down to 16 cycles/second. So the bass is quite spectacular, There's no mistaking when they come in either (at around 4:30). NOTE: please be aware that this is a test recording for a sound level check, and should in NO WAY be considered a finished performance. It is a credit to the skill of the cathedral organist Michael Gormley that he just took out the score and played for the recording crew. I was lucky, because I was helping at the time, and was by the organ console, (score) page turning for the organist. It was quite an experience! The organ is the "tracker" 4 manual/keyboard plus pedal board. Built by Hellmuth Wold Wolff/Opus 47/2005. It is the largest organ this late great man ever built.
