Killarney, John McCormack, Recorded in 1904 when he was aged 20. One year after he had won the gold medal at the Feis Ceoil in Dublin and one year before he went for voice training to Italy with Vincenzo Sabatini. Killarney was composed by Michael William Balfe in 1862.The most notable feature of this early recording is that he did not use vibrato at that time.Have a listen to his 1910 recording to see how much his voice has changed. This Issue: 12" Australian Columbia No.9160 Matrix AX1501 / AX1502 "The Bohemian Girl" is a romantic opera composed in 1843 by Michael Balfe. +••.••(...)) The opera premiered in London at the Drury Lane Theatre in the same year. The opera achieved success in many places, including New York and the major cities of Europe and included multi-lingual versions. It has also undergone numerous revivals into recent times. The BBC Wireless Symphony Orchestra had its beginnings in 1923 under the advice and direction of Percy Pitt, +••.••(...)) who became full-time Director of Music with them in 1924. He remained in this position until 1930 when he was succeeded by Adrian Boult. Recorded and processed from an original vintage 78 by myself.
