Achron Theremin Isidor Achron Rosen Jascha Heifetz Moog Draper 1892 1927 1938 1943 1948 2020
Resurrected from the archives: Isidor Achron's NOCTURNE-FANTASIA (1943) for Theremin and Piano, dedicated to Lucie Bigelow-Rosen, the New York socialite and theremin player who supported Leon Theremin's lab work during his American sojourn, 1927-1938. Born to a Russian Jewish family in Warsaw, Isidor Achron +••.••(...)) was a pianist, composer and music teacher who found fame Jascha Heifetz's accompanist. A virtuoso in his own right, Achron left a small but beautiful collection of works including a Nocturne-Fantasia (op.9) and Improvisation (op. 12) for theremin and piano. I transcribed this piece from the archives at Caramoor, Lucie's country home in upstate New York. With her Estate's blessing, I've been working to typeset and digitize her scores for wider performance. This recording was made under coronavirus lockdown in April 2020. The theremin in the film is a Big Briar 91A, built by Bob Moog. Piano - Paul Jackson Theremin - Charlie Draper

Eberhard Schoener lebt in München.
Max Richter Vivaldi Elena Urioste Moog
Max Richter – The New Four Seasons – Vivaldi Recomposed – Spring 1 (Official Video) Listen to 'The New Four Seasons': (http•••) A decade on from the release of his mesmerising Recomposed album, the composer returns to the sound world of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, accompanied by violinist Elena Urioste and the musicians of Chineke! Orchestra. Having performed Recomposed live many times in the last decade, he was inspired by a special rendition of the work on period instruments to take “a new trip through the text using Vivaldi’s own colours”. The New Four Seasons applies a Baroque palette to the score in which he transforms or subverts fragments from the original four violin concertos by refracting them through different musical prisms, spinning them into different shapes and colours and enveloping them in completely different orchestral settings. Richter has revisited the electronics too, here opting for Moog synths from the 70s – “the equivalent of the Stradivarius”. Asked about the difference in sound between modern and period strings, he laughs: “I heard someone say it’s the difference between smooth peanut butter and crunchy peanut butter, which encapsulates it really well!”
