Titta Ruffo Maria Galvany Gioachino Rossini
--------------------------------------------------------- Titta Ruffo & Maria Galvany, “Dunque io son” (“Il Barbiere di Siviglia”, Gioachino Rossini) /
This was the war tune of the Sanfedists - a Catholic counter-revolutionary movement created by cardinal Fabrizio Ruffo in an act of loyalty to the King of the Two Sicilies, who fought against the french jacobins and their puppet state in southern Italy - the Parthenopean Republic. Translation was free according to my own very limited knowledge of the Napolitan dialect, and with the help of my friend Sergio. Grazie mille amico mio! Lyrics: A lu suono de la grancascia Viva lu populo bascio A lu suono de tamburrielli So' risurte li puverielli A lu suono de campane Viva viva li pupulane A lu suono de viuline Morte alli Giacubbine Sona sona Sona Carmagnola Sona li cunzigli Viva 'o rre cu la famiglia Alli tridece de giugno Sant'Antonio gluriuso 'e signure 'sti birbante 'e facettero 'o mazzo tanto So' venute li Francise Aute tasse 'nce hanno mise "Liberté, Egalité" Tu arrobbe a me, io arrobbo a te. Viva Tata Maccarone ca rispetta la Religgione. Giacubine jate a mare mò v'abbrucia lu panaro! Sona sona Sona Carmagnola Sona li cunziglie Viva 'o rre cu la famiglia PS: The "Carmagnole" was a jacobin song used a war chant by the Parthenopeans and their French allies P.PS: Tata Maccarone was either a brigand who sided with the Sanfedists, or the pseudonym of King Ferdinand IV
Mattia Battistini Donizetti Titta Ruffo Giuseppe Luca Chest 1856 1928
Mattia Battistini, (27 February 1856 7 November 1928)was born in Rome. He studied voice with Persechini was was also the voice teacher of Titta Ruffo and Giuseppe di Luca. Notice how much chiaro Battistini keeps in the passaggio and the top. No baritone on the main stage today comes close to that clarity. You do not get it from putting it in your nose, placing the sound in between your eyes, in your eyebrows, up, spinning....those things only add constrictions and distortions to the sound. You get it from proper development of the chest register and falsetto register, their coordination, and learning to cover correctly.
Mattia Battistini Leoncavallo Titta Ruffo Giuseppe Luca 1856 1928
Mattia Battistini, (27 February 1856 7 November 1928)was born in Rome. He studied voice with Persechini was was also the voice teacher of Titta Ruffo and Giuseppe di Luca. Many consider his baritone the most beautiful in history. He had great register balance and coordination. Listen to how clear the vowels are even in the passaggio and top as he "covers". Amazing.
