Arnošt Vančura (Arnošt Vanžura, Ernst von Wanczura) - Three Symphonies on Slavic Themes: Ukrainian, Polish, Russian - Symphony No. 3 in B flat major, ‘Polish’ Performers: Yury Nikorenko & Kiev Theatre Soloists Ensamble 1.Allegro assai (alla mazurca) 2.Andante (alla polacca) 3.Rondo (alla casaciok) Arnošt Vančura (Arnošt Vanžura, german: Ernst von Wanczura or Wancura, 1750, Bohemia - 1802, St. Petersburg) was a Czech and Russian composer from a noble Bohemian family. He gained a certain fame in Vienna as a composer, pianist, violinist. In 1783 he moved to St. Petersburg, where, since 1786, he was one of the conductors of the Court Opera and a Court pianist; in chamber ensembles he also played the violin. Wanczura enjoyed the patronage of Catherine II (Catherine the Great). Wanczura took part in the restructuring of the Kamenny Theater, later called Bolshoy Theater. In addition, Wanczura also submitted projects for the opening of new theaters in Moscow, opposing Michael Maddox, who considered necessary to develop the only, already created Petrovsky Theater. Wanczura is the author of "Three national symphonies for a large orchestra on the themes of various songs of Russian, Ukrainian and Polish" (French: Trois Sinfonies nationales a grand orchestre arrangées de plusieurs chansons russes, ukrainiennes et polonoises; St. Petersburg, 1798). These symphonies are considered ones of the earliest examples of the processing of folk music in the symphonic genre and, possibly, are the first symphonies written in Russia.
