Friedrich Hermann / Capriccio for 3 violins in D minor Written in 1856, Leipzig Musicians:¹ Jiyoon Lee Violin: Pietro Guarneri, 1730 Niek Baar Violin: Carlo Bergonzi, 1729 Mayumi Kanagawa Violin: G.B.Rogeri, 1700* ¹All students at the Hochschule für Musik 'Hanns Eisler' in Berlin Recorded: 8 December 2014, Berlin. *this violin is owned by Kogge & Gateau violin makers in Berlin and given to Mayumi for this recording Jiyoon Lee (1992) is a Korean violinist who studied with the famous Korean pedagogue Nam Yun Kim and is currently a masters student at the Hochschule für Musik 'Hanns Eisler' Berlin with Prof. Kolja Blacher. Jiyoon is a laureate of several international competitions such as the Sarasate violin competition, the Seoul, and Isangyun Competitions in Korea and of the famous Indianapolis Violin Competition. Last year she was the recipient of the first prize at the David Oistrakh Competition in Moscow. Jiyoon made her debut as a soloist at the age of 10 with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and played as a soloist with several orchestras since then. Jiyoon plays a violin by Guarneri of Venice given to her by 'Stiftung Deutsche Musikleben' Niek Baar (1991) is a Dutch violinist who started to play the violin at the age of 8. In 2012 Niek received his Bachelor Diplom cum laude at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague (Holland), and currently studies at the Hochschule für Musik 'Hanns Eisler' Berlin with Prof. Stephan Picard. Niek is a prize winner of several national and international competitions and received the First Prize during the International Solo Bach Competition in London and got the third prize during the famous International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig 2014, to be the first dutch prizewinner in the violin category of this competition. As a soloist, Niek made his debut at the age of 16 with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and has also performed with Sinfonia Rotterdam during a performance in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Niek plays a violin made by Carlo Bergonzi 'ex Vornbaum' made in cremona from the year 1729, loaned to him by a private owner. Visit: www.niekbaar.com Mayumi Kanagawa (1994) is a Japanese/American violinist who started playing the violin at the age of four. One year later she moved to New York where she continued her studies with Prof. Masao Kawasaki. Mayumi already won several national and international competitions such as the prestigious Heifetz Competition in Vilnius, Lithuania and the International Irving M.Klein Competition in San Francisco, and has played as a soloist with several orchestras such as Kremerata Baltica, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Deutsche Kammerphilarmonie Bremen.
