III. Chanson d’un demain – (Poem by Daniel Knaggs, 2014) S’endort enfin l’obscurité, La nuit a veillé longtemps, longtemps. Translation: Finally, the darkness is falling asleep, The night has been awake for a long, long time. The stars are hidden in the light that consumes them— even the brightest stars. Here is the true life promised us by some tomorrow. No more war, no more hatred. Morning is here. We have waited so long, so long for the sun, and here it is. Here it is. We had almost lost hope of seeing it again— of feeling the radiance of its consoling face. But here it is. Here it is. From now on, let us hide ourselves in this light that consumes us. We are its brightest stars: you, me, each of the inhabitants of this fragile world. May that former darkness never again awaken. May this tomorrow be today, And this today, forever… Performed by the Vancouver Chamber Choir, John Washburn, cond. Copyright Walton Music 2017. All Rights Reserved. À telles choses muser, Voit-on fols souvent servir. Translation: Would you stop them, these running rivers, or catch and hold cranes when you see them flying high? To dream of such things is a pastime for fools: Would you stop them, these running rivers? Let time pass just as Fortune wills it, and let things happen That you cannot prevent. Would you stop them…? "The wind, like the sea, possesses an infinite number of vocal variations...The wind is an element that grasps the ears forcefully. The sensation is tactile as well as aural. How curious and almost supernatural it is to hear the wind in the distance without feeling it, as one does on a calm day in the Swiss Alps, where the faint, soft whistling of the wind over a glacier miles away can be heard across the intervening stillness of the valleys. "All modern languages have colourful words to describe sound qualities. Numerous exercises could be devised to explore language onomatopoeia, starting by simply making lists of words in your own language that illustrate in sound the notion or object they are describing (gurgle, splash, bubble, smack, pop, etc.). But an exercise I prefer is to invent words in your own private language with onomatopoeic qualities. Try inventing some to illustrate the following: bell sneeze a bomb exploding a cat purring moonlight Here, for example are some onomatopoeic inventions for 'moonlight' given to me by 11-year-olds..." - R.
