"...dazzling vocal star of the night is Celeste Lazarenko, a soprano who is growing in vocal stature and confidence with each step she takes up the ladder of roles; the flexibility and technique she displays in the flourishes and intricacies of the music are a delight." Diana Simmonds, Stagenoise Dec 2013 Act 1, scene 11 - 'Del l'antro magico, stridenti cardini' Medea, Chorus of spirits Celeste Lazarenko, Alexandra Oomens, Andrew Goodwin, Adrian McEniery, David Greco, Nicholas Dinopoulos, Orchestra of the Antipodes, Erin Helyard conductor Pinchgut's reputation has taken off over the past 11 years, and the company is now firmly established as a vital part of Australia's musical landscape. Pinchgut specialises in presenting unfairly neglected operas from the baroque and early classical periods. In December 2013, Giasone was Pinchgut's twelfth production. Cavalli's Giasone was the No.1 smash hit of the 1600s. Bawdy, beautiful, and brilliantly entertaining, it tells the story of the legendary hero Jason on his quest for the Golden Fleece. But is he really as heroic as he seems, or have his lusty loins proved too much of a distraction? If you've ever given in to temptation, you might just recognise yourself in this flawed hero... This latest production from Pinchgut looked as sumptuous as it sounded. Men in uniform, women in fabulous gowns, and a merry band of sailors along for the ride. If you missed this Australian premiere / well, you'll be kicking yourself for centuries...
