Alexander Scriabin Hans Drewanz Ponti Mania Hamburg Symphony Orchestra 1915 1935
The music is from Russian composer and pianist Alexander Scriabin. The album is Scriabin Piano Concerto/Poem of Ecstasy performed by the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra; Hans Drewanz, conductor. Michael Ponti, pianist. Scriabin gave the final concert of his lifetime on 2 April 1915 in St. Petersburg, performing a large program of his own works. Two years later, the Russian revolution began. It seems intriguing to me that up to now his works have survived. After his death, Scriabin's music was greatly disparaged in the West - being labeled as evil music. At best, his work declined in public appeal. In 1935, musicologist Gerald Abraham described Scriabin as a "sad pathological case, erotic and egotistic to the point of mania". The music Piano concerto in F Sharp Minor op. 20 is a long piece filled with romantic vibes in three parts. In my opinion, it is best to play the music as one piece - intended to be heard in one sitting. To the classical-challenged, please do not stand up and clap at the end of parts 1 and 2. Wait until the entire piece is finished - by that I mean that the last breath of note is no longer heard. I do not own the copyright to the music and the recording.
