Le Chant du Villeur, Joaquin Nin +••.••(...)) Cuban pianist and composer Joaquin Nin established his performing career well before he began composing. Nin began writing his own works after discovering that the music of Spanish composers was rather underperformed. Le Chant du Veilleur tells of a man keeping watch over his town when the sun starts to rise. This song was composed in 1937 for mezzo-soprano, violin, and piano. Jean-Marie Londeix, saxophone professor at the Bordeaux Conservatory, later transcribed the violin part for saxophone. This is an absolutely beautiful piece for voice and saxophone. A lot of fun to play, and it served as a great release in tension in a program that was full of loud and intense music. :) The recital took place on Sunday, February 27th, 2011.
Jean-Marie Londeix, yet another French virtuoso of classical saxophone. This is the Concertino op. 125 for alto saxophone and obligatory flute, with orchestral accompaniment, by Andre Ameller. Recorded in 1959. I own the CD this audio is derived from. My sole purpose in uploading this is to share this gorgeous, forgotten piece of music. 1st Mov't - Lento et Allegro con fantasia 2nd Mov't - Come un'Improvisazione 3rd Mov't - Vivace
