“Sextet Montage” from tick, tick…BOOM! (Soundtrack from the Netflix Film) Music by Jonathan Larson Performed by Gizel Jiménez, Joshua Henry and the Cast of "Superbia" Workshop Listen to the soundtrack here: (http•••) ABOUT JONATHAN LARSON Jonathan Larson was an American composer and playwright noted for exploring the social issues of multiculturalism, addiction, and homophobia in his work. Typical examples of his use of these themes are found in his musicals Rent and Tick, Tick... Boom! He received three posthumous Tony Awards and a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the rock musical Rent. Completed in 1991, was an autobiographical "rock monologue" entitled 30/90, which was later renamed Boho Days and finally titled tick, tick... BOOM! This piece, written for only Larson with a piano and rock band, was intended to be a response to his feelings of rejection caused by the disappointment of Superbia. For his work on Rent, Larson was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score; the Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Book of a Musical, Outstanding Music, and Outstanding Lyrics; the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical; the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical in the Off-Broadway category; and Obie Awards for Outstanding Book, Outstanding Lyrics, and Outstanding Music. ABOUT tick, tick...BOOM! Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda makes his feature directorial debut with tick, tick…BOOM!, an adaptation of the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, who revolutionized theater as the creator of Rent. The film follows Jon (Academy Award nominee and Tony Award winner Andrew Garfield), a young theater composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in 1990 while writing what he hopes will be the next great American musical. Days before he’s due to showcase his work in a make-or-break performance, Jon is feeling the pressure from everywhere: from his girlfriend Susan, who dreams of an artistic life beyond New York City; from his friend Michael, who has moved on from his dream to a life of financial security; amidst an artistic community being ravaged by the AIDS epidemic. With the clock ticking, Jon is at a crossroads and faces the question everyone must reckon with: What are we meant to do with the time we have? tick, tick…BOOM! stars Academy Award nominee & Tony Award winner Andrew Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, Tony Award nominee Robin de Jesús, Tony Award nominee Joshua Henry, Emmy Award nominee Mj Rodriguez, Emmy Award winner Bradley Whitford, Tariq Trotter aka Black Thought of The Roots, with Emmy and Tony Award winner Judith Light, and Vanessa Hudgens. We just started restoring this Emerson Upright today. The piano is cosmetically in pretty rough shape. It has unique carvings in the side and in the lock which will look beautiful when we are done. The piano is older than a hundred years, built around 1890, so the keys are in bad shape. We will first replace the hammers and dampers. We will replace the strings. Some strings are missing and some have already been replaced. The piano has major regulation issues. Even though it sounds rough, it has major potential. Let's restore this piece of art. watch the after video here-(http•••) Brigham Larson Pianos: 1497 State St Orem, UT 84097 Call the store at: +••.••(...) Download/stream the single here: (http•••) Requiem for a Lark was inspired by Béla Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, a piece we used to play in our public high school orchestra class at Traverse City West Senior High. The melody of the first movement stuck with me for days, I couldn't get it out of my head. I wrote Requiem for a Lark thinking about Bartók wandering through the streets of Transylvania gathering melodies from gypsy violinists and composing his own pieces inspired by them. I was inspired by Bartók's inspiration, and the cyclical process of creation spawning creation. So I wrote Requiem For a Lark from Bartók's perspective, incorporating pieces of his melodies and chord structure. We decided to arrange and score the song for an orchestra. Shortly after, we had the amazing opportunity to collaborate with one of the top youth orchestras in the world, Contemporary Youth Orchestra in Cleveland, OH. The conductor, Liza Grossman, is an absolute genius. Requiem for a Lark was recorded LIVE in one day. Working with her, Ben Kipp and the orchestra was a complete honor. Everyone made us feel at home; during a break from rehearsal we sat on the edge of the stage with some of the students and they taught us how to fold tiny origami cranes. We still carry them with us. We are looking forward to sharing this music with you on May 1st as a digital release. As a bonus we are releasing the orchestral version with the CYO and the rock version of Requiem for a Lark on vinyl. You can purchase that on our web-store at www.theaccidentalsmusic.com/store. Thanks to the Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO), Liza Grossman, Ben Kipp, The Rock Hall of Fame, Maria Brunner, Amber Buist, and Sharon Corbitt for making this project a reality.
