This recording of Olimpia Boronat was made in St Petersburg in January 1904, with piano by Redento Zardo. The transfer has been made from an HMV special pressing. From Wikipedia: Olimpia Boronat (1867 – 1934) was an Italian operatic coloratura soprano, noted for her performances of the soprano roles in the bel canto repertory. Boronat was born in Genoa, and made her debut either there or in Naples during 1885. She sang around the world, particularly the Spanish-speaking world, but was particularly associated with Russia; she first sang there at St Petersburg in 1894. She married a member of the Polish aristocracy, and retired from the stage for six years from 1896 to 1902. After her hiatus, she sang initially in Russia; it was not until 1909 that she returned to her native Italy to sing. Boronat was noted for a voice of great beauty and clarity, and exceptional technical ability, coupled with sensitive musicianship. She was particularly associated with the roles of Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Violetta in La Traviata, Elvira in I Puritani, and Ophélie in Hamlet. After her retirement, Boronat founded a singing school in Warsaw.

Her debut took place in Naples either in 1885 or 1886, but not at the San Carlo. In the first few years of her career she sang in Central and South America. In 1891, after appearances in Italy and Egypt, she proceeded to St Petersburg as guest at the Mariinsky Theatre, following it with engagements in Moscow, Kiev and Warsaw. She was a favorite singer of the Tsar. She married a Pole, count Rzewuski (until 1918 Poland was part of Imperial Russia). According to one authority the marriage took place in 1893, another states 1902. In those days, a marriage into the nobility would have brought the curtain down on her career. If the marriage took place in 1893, it would have lasted only a couple of years. If it did not take place until 1902, and in 1904 she made her first records for the G&T company in St. Petersburg. She retired in 1914 and after World War I she moved to Warsaw where she opened a school for singing."; cantabile-subito.de
