Swanson Dana Suesse George Gershwin Vincent Youmans 1931 1934 2017
Adam Swanson performs Dana Suesse's 1931 masterpiece "Jazz Nocturne" (aka "My Silent Love") on the composer's Steinway concert grand piano. She bought the piano in 1934 after achieving an enormous hit with "You Oughta Be in Pictures." Many of the best musicians of the era played this Steinway, including George Gershwin, Johnny Green, Vincent Youmans, and more. A beautiful painting of Suesse can be seen in the video, looking down at the piano. Today, Suesse's friend Peter Mintun lovingly cares for the instrument. Recorded at the Mintun residence, New York, NY | March 3, 2017.
