She has followed the primary school and the high school "Oltea Doamna" in her natal city and from 1947 the Conservatory of Dramatic Art in Bucharest. From her last years of studies she was hired by the Opera and Ballet Theater of Bucharest where she makes her début with the role of Rosiae (Barbiere di Seviglia by Gioacchino Rossini), role which will be one of great successes of her artistic career. Magda Ianculescu, together with opera singers like Dan Iordachescu, Nicolae Herlea and Valentin Teodorian, formed what the melomans used to call "the gold team of the Romanian Opera". An exceptional voice by its timber and ambitus, a fine musicality, a perfectly controlled vocal technique are qualities that propelled her as a new star on the firmament of the lyric art. The title of Artist Emeritus will be conferred to her in 1962. Her repertory includes more than 50 roles. In company of famous Orchestras from Belgium, Italy, the USSR, France, Chekoslovakia, Yugoslavia, etc, she sustained more than 35 principal roles, from the Viennese operetta to the contemporary Romanian opera, among which are: Iaroslavna fromPrince Igor by A.P. Borodin, Norina from Don Pasquale by G. Donizetti, Donna Elvira from Don Giovann), Blondchen from The Abduction from the Seraglio, Suzanna from Le Nozze di Figaro by W. A. Mozart. Magda Ianculescu's voice has a broad ambitus and a timber quality that determined musical critics to compare her performances to those of Maria Callas.
