Soprano Gillian Zammit brings to life the tribulations of Violetta in two contrasting scenes from 'La Traviata', one of the best-loved operatic scores. The Scena and Aria from Act 1 (“È strano…Sempre libera”) is set in the early hours of the morning, in the aftermath of a party Violetta has thrown. Alfredo Germont has declared his love, awakening new, strange feelings within her. Faced with the prospect of giving up her decadent life and sacrificing everything in the name of love, she allows herself to dream briefly of a future with Alfredo. Ultimately however, already knowing she is ill, she chooses to reject this path singing almost feverishly of pursuing a hedonistic, superficial life – despite Alfredo’s serenading (tenor: Luis Aguilar) from the streets below. The very reflective and pathetic Prelude to Act 3 leads directly into a most moving scene. Violetta is now terminally ill and alone. She has by now lost not only most of her possessions but hope itself. She reads a letter from Alfredo’s father informing her that her former lover will be returning to ask her forgiveness, but Violetta exclaims that it is now too late. She desperately reminiscences on a foregone past (“È tardi…Addio, del passato”), sharing her fears about her imminent death. Latvijas Universitātes Fizikas un matemātikas fakultātes jauktais koris AURA dzied: 1. James Mulholland - Kyrie eleison (from Messa Romantica).........3'37 2. Romuald Twardowski - Alleluia .........................................................3'24 Kora mākslinieciskais vadītājs un diriģents - Edgars Vītols koncertmeistare - Mareta Beitika Ieraksts veikts Jelgavas Sv. Annas katedrālē, koncertā "LAI TĀPĒC ŠODIEN TORŅI SKAN!" 2010. gada 30. maijā. Koris Aura: kolektīvs, kuru nu jau sešus gadus par savējo sauc zinātkāri, enerģiski un draudzīgi kormūziku mīloši jaunieši. Paši dalībnieki saka: "AURA - tas nav tikai koris, tas ir dzīvesveids!" Daudzi muzikāli mirkļi aizvadīti koncertos dažādās Rīgas un Latvijas koncertzālēs, muzicēts "Pasaules kora" sastāvā Viļņā, atskaņojot Dž. Verdi "Rekviēmu" un ar neatlaidīgu darbu izcīnīti Zelta diplomi Fr. Šūberta koru konkursā Vīnē, Austrijā un šogad arī 6. starptautiskajā Roberta Šūmaņa koru konkursā Cvikavā, Vācijā. Kora dalībnieki un diriģents Edgars Vītols ir lepni par paveikto un ar vien raugās nākotnē. Kora moto: lai dziedot mūzika pārvēršas par putnu, paceļas spārnos un izskan plašajā pasaulē... Choir Aura: energetic and choral-music loving students, they have been „allies with curiosity" for 6 years now. Lot of musical moments have been spent in concerts in different concert halls in Riga and Latvia, they have been a part of „World's Choir" in Vilnius performing G. Verdi's "Requiem" and with an assertive work they have won Gold Diplomas in Fr. Schubert Choir Competition in Vienna, Austria and this year the 6th International Robert Schumann Choir Competition in Zwickau, Germany. Members of the choir and the conductor Edgars Vītols are proud of their accomplishments and they are positively looking into the future.
