Ludvig Schytte Schoenberg Greaves 1848 1901 1908 1909
Phillip Sear plays 'Evening music', the beautiful last piece from a late set of '4 Klavierstücke' from 1908 by the Danish pianist and composer Ludvig Schytte +••.••(...)). The piece was published in English-speaking countries under the title 'Norseland Evening Song'. / If you would like to know more about Ludvig Schytte +••.••(...)) the Danish pianist and composer of this piece, have a look at his own brief account of his life written in 1901 in the March edition of the Etude magazine, which can be downloaded from here: (http•••) . NB, his name is pronounced "Skite" as I understand! Although Schytte's earliest (and most popular) pieces were quite Schumannesque in style, his later music - which is far less well-known - has a certain Wagnerian grandeur and calmness, and this piece actually brings to mind - for me - the atmosphere of the end of Schoenberg's 'Verklarte Nacht'. My thumbnail shows the artwork by Philip Greaves on a 1908 British edition of the sheet music. / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )
