1. MEET THE HARP STARS : OSIAN ELLIS I am very thankful to receive this amazing video about Maestro OSIAN ELLIS, the harpist who inspired Benjamin Britten to write famous Suite for harp and other compositions. When I was organising the 1st Worldwide Online Harp Congres, I wanted to have Maestro Ellis for the interview, but unfortunately it was not possiuble for him. You were able to listen to his perfomance during the 3rd World Harp Congress (http•••) And in these days I received this video, which introduce this wonderful artist to all of you not only as a great harpist but also as the composer with new composition, which Maestro Ellis just published in these days. You can odrer the composition at the link mentioned at the end of the video. This video is the most wonderful meeting of one of the HARP STARS ! MEET THE STAR : OSIAN ELLIS ! Lachrymae - a new work for solo harp composed by internationally renowned Welsh harpist Osian Ellis. Listen to Osian himself performing the music in this new, exclusive video. The work is published by Cwmni Cyhoeddi Gwynn Publishing and the sheet music available to download from www.gwynn.co.uk The work is presented in memory of Llinos, and was composed at a most distressing time while she was being treated in hospital for cancer and while her mother, Glynis, sat with her, day and night, until her death in November 2018, at the age of 39. This newly composed piece reflects stress and pain, but also reflects the ebb of life and memories of childhood. Osian Ellis is regarded not only as an international harpist of high acclaim but also as one of the most notable musicians of the 20th century. At the age of seventeen he was awarded the Joseph Parry Scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music, London, and was later appointed Professor of Harp there, a post he held for over 30 years. In 1960 he was appointed as Principal Harp of the London Symphony Orchestra, and the next 30 years would see him performing extensively with the orchestra and also as a soloist and chamber harpist with the renowned Melos Ensemble. Many leading composers, including Benjamin Britten, William Mathias and Alun Hoddinott composed works especially for him. For further information: •••@•••
