A talk/concept/presentation by Dimitri Vassilakis with his Athens quartet, to showcase how jazz - this great American art form - has become global and has embraced the broad democratic values that were first established in ancient Greece. Also how jazz as a universal language can teach us again how to communicate in a more humane, democratic and creative way. He has recorded 5 award winning albums for historic jazz label Candid Records. His album “Daedalus Project – Labyrinth“, voted as Jazz album of the year by BBC in 2002 has become the subject of study at several universities and has been presented at Yale and conferences of Musicology. His album “Parallel Lines“, a trio suite dedicated to Sonny Rollins was greatly acclaimed by critics. His last album “Across The Universe” – his debut vocal album with a cosmopolitan line up -has given him 2 years of world touring and some of the best reviews ever.
