Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow +••.••(...)) „Vom Himmel kam der Engel Schar“ Kantate zum Weihnachtsfest für Chor, 4 Trompeten, Pauke, Streicher und Basso continuo. Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow oder Zachau (getauft am 14. November 1663 in Leipzig; † 7. Zachow Gottfried Kirchhoff Kirchhoff Johann Philipp Krieger Krieger Johann Gotthilf Ziegler Ziegler George Frideric Handel Bach 1663 1702 1712 1713
Beautiful choral prelude over In dulci jubilo. "In dulci jubilo" (Latin for "In sweet rejoicing") is a traditional Christmas carol. In its original setting, the carol is a macaronic text of German and Latin dating from the Middle Ages. However it’s a Baroque piece, I couldn’t resist to play it near legato because of the fluent melody lines. I hope you forgive me for that. :-) Zachow was the teacher of Gottfried Kirchhoff, Johann Philipp Krieger and Johann Gotthilf Ziegler, but is best remembered as George Frideric Handel's first music teacher. He taught Handel how to play the violin, organ, harpsichord, and oboe as well as counterpoint. Zachow's teaching was so effective, that in 1702 at the age of seventeen, Handel accepted a position as organist at the former Dom in Halle. It is said that after Zachow died in 1712, Handel became a benefactor to his widow and children in gratitude for his teacher's instruction. In 1713 J.S. Bach was invited as Zachow's successor. I you like my organ performances, please consider to buy me a coffee. I buy new Hauptwerk sample sets regularly to keep my channel exiting. You can help me with that! :-) (http•••) Played with the Matthijs van Deventer-organ from the Grote Kerk in Nijkerk, the Netherlands.
