Thanks to you all!!! This channel has reached 150000 views at last and we’re on the brink of the 400th subscriber!!! For this double celebration, here is part I: an epic Chinese symphony on the Long March by composer Shan-de Ding. Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by / Orquesta Sinfónica de la Radio Eslovaca dirigida por Long Yu I. Embarking on the Road (0:00) II. Red Army, the beloved of various nationalities (21:15) III. Rush capture of Luting Bridge (33:36) IV. Crossing snow mountains and grassland (40:57) V. Triumphant Junction (59:21) Shan-de Ding was one of those Chinese musicians who were greatly aided by the Communist Revolution and régime to develop his intrinsic talents, but also blocked by them. Originally a humble peasant from Jiangsu, he began his path in music as a pipa player, receiving a bachelor of music in 1935. He continued his studies further in Russia as a piano player, yet he did not turn into composition until he was 36, and travelled to France where he was admitted in the prestigious Paris Conservatoire. He went back to China in 1949 just after the Communist Revolution ended, and held the highest position in the Shanghai Conservatoire. In 1959, he composed the massive Long March Symphony, which along his great Piano Concerto in B flat, represent his masterpieces. The symphony is based upon one of the milestones of Communist China’s history, the epic Long March, which constituted actually a strategic retreat lead by the Communist Party fleeing from nationalist forces trying to crush them and which would eventually led Mao Tse-tung into power. Unfortunately, the symphony was banned from playing and most of its manuscripts burned during the years of the Cultural Revolution, yet some of them survived intact and were edited for a swifter play. This recording however, presents the symphony in its original, epic scaled form.
