Franz Rupp, piano NY Times Obit Franz Rupp, Accompanist, Is Dead at 91 By ALLAN KOZINN Published: June 03, 1992 Franz Rupp, a pianist who was best known for his performances and recordings with the violinist Fritz Kreisler, the cellist Emanuel Feuermann and the contralto Marian Anderson, died last Wednesday at the Cabrini Hospice. He was 91 years old and lived in Manhattan. He died of cancer of the esophagus, said his wife, Sylvia. Mr. Rupp was born in Schongau, Germany, on Feb. 24, 1901, and began his formal studies at the Akademie der Tonkunst in Munich when he was 14 years old. In 1920, he toured the United States with the violinist Willy Burmester. He made his name in the 1930's as an accompanist for the violinist Fritz Kreisler, with whom he recorded the complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas in 1935. Those recordings, recently reissued on compact disk, are still regarded as classic interpretations. By the time he settled in New York City in 1938, he was already well known as an accompanist, and he quickly became an important part of the city's musical fabric. Other instrumentalists with whom he worked included the cellist Zara Nelsova and the violinists Erica Morini and George Kulenkampff. He continued working into the 1980's and made his last recordings with Kakaya Urakawa, a Japanese violinist. His last public performance was a concert of Kreisler pieces with the violist Rivka Golani at the Lockenhaus festival in Austria in 1985. Mr. Rupp's longest-standing collaboration, however, was with Miss Anderson, with whom he began working in the 1940's. He worked as her regular accompanist until she retired from the concert stage in 1965. In the 1970's, he taught the German vocal literature and chamber music at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. He is survived by his wife.

Richard Flury +••.••(...)) Violin Concerto No. 1 I. Allegro 0:00 II. Andante 18:50 III. Allegro molto 25:33 Ulrich Lehmann, violin Tschechisches Sinfonieorchester Prag Urs Joseph Flury, conductor Richard Flury +••.••(...)) was a Swiss conductor and composer. Subsequently to receiving the baccalaureate at the secondary school in Solothurn (Switzerland) Flury studied musicology, art history and philosophy at the universities of Basel , Bern and Geneva . At the local conservatories he also attended the violin classes of Fritz Hirt, Alphonse Brun and Paul Miche. He also took lessons in composition with Hans Huber , in counterpoint with Ernst Kurth and in instrumentation with Joseph Lauber . At the end of his studies he worked with the composer Joseph Marx in Vienna and attended a conducting course by Felix Weingartner in Basel. Subsequently, Flury worked as a violin teacher, from 1919 to 1937 at the Municipal Music School and from 1930 to 1961 at the Kantonsschule Solothurn. For thirty years he conducted the Solothurn City Orchestra +••.••(...)) and for several years, among others, the Academic Orchestra +••.••(...)) in Zurich , the mixed choir "Harmony" in Bern and the Orchestra Association Gerlafingen. As a guest conductor he led subscription concerts in Bern and Basel and occasionally worked in the radio studios of Zurich and Lugano, where he mostly conducted his own works. As a composer, Flury was rooted in the neo-romantic tradition and found his personal style in an imaginative harmony and in the rhythmic development of his works. But especially in his colorfully orchestrated works of music there are also impressionistic features, reaching the limits of tonality . The lifelong province remained closed to a larger forum, but Richard Flury's significance was recognized by many prominent musicians of his time. Among them Wilhelm Backhaus , Joseph Bovet , Paul Burkhard , Pablo Casals , Alfred Cortot , Émile Jaques-Dalcroze , Gustave Doret, Walter Gieseking , Georg Kulenkampff , Franz Lehár , Hermann Scherchen , Othmar Schoeck , Richard Strauss , Joseph Szigeti and Felix Weingartner , who conducted Flurys Carnival Symphony in Basel. These, like the Forest Symphony, were also performed in various music centers in Europe. In 1964, R. Flury was awarded the Solothurn Art Prize. His son is Urs Joseph Flury .
