Recording at a memorial mass in 1951. Fernande Pellerin +••.••(...)) was born in Shawinigan (Canada). Endowed from the beginning with a beautiful, rich, easy and natural lyrical soprano voice, she took singing lessons with local teachers and sang here and there as a chorister or soloist with several choirs, lay or religious, before joining the Shawinigan Operetta Society +••.••(...)) very actively. In several important positions, she will act as principal soloist, music director for rehearsals or consultant. Afterwards, and in parallel with her work as secretary, she auditioned and was accepted into the class of Pauline Donalda, a renowned Montreal professor and founder of the Opéra Guild, who sang alongside the great Caruso and under the direction of Jules Massenet in the title role of the opera Manon, among others. Very impressed by her talent from the very first classes, Mrs. Donalda will not hesitate to call her a stage animal, believing that she already sings like a professional! She will go to her classes by train every Sunday for a few years and with great enthusiasm, rubbing shoulders with colleagues who will one day become great names in opera in Quebec, such as Fernande Chiocchio and Robert Savoie, or meeting internationally renowned artists, friends of Ms. Donalda, such as Jan Peerce and George London. But after a few years, this fascinating and exciting period gave way to the fear of a career that seemed too unstable to her, choosing instead a stable job that would bring her security, finally devoting herself to the family and the development of choral singing in the Shawinigan region with her husband, Fernand Grenier +••.••(...)).
