Gerald Graham Peel 1878 1905 1937
My apologies for the prosaic title of this 1905 piece - but blame the composer for that. (Gerald) Graham Peel +••.••(...)) was a British, Oxford-educated musician who ended his life in Bournemouth where, as well as being involved with local music-making, he was a prison visitor. The Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra played at his funeral. Peel was known in the early 1900s for his songs (he wrote over 100 of them), but wrote a few piano pieces. This one is quite exultant in mood. / / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )
Thomas Dunhill Edward Bairstow Minster Peel 1877 1884 1916 1946
An 'eclogue' is a short pastoral poem, usually depicting rural life. This little gem was written around 1916 and dedicated to Edward Bairstow (organist at York Minster). Dunhill was assistant master of music at Eton School and a Professor at the Royal College of Music, London. Peter Litman plays the 1884 Brindley and Foster Organ at St German's Cathedral, Peel, Isle of Man.
'The Unfolding' is the title track of the forthcoming album by Hannah Peel & Paraorchestra, released on 1 April 2022. The track, 'The Unfolding' is available to stream / download now. The Unfolding is an extraordinary eight-part collaboration between Mercury and Emmy nominated Northern Irish composer Hannah Peel and Bristol’s Paraorchestra. There are pieces of music that seek to tell us deeper stories. Others harness the talents of the players at their disposal in adventurous ways. Then there are the rare, generous works that make us think back to our roots as human beings and to our shared beginnings in the universe, that lift us in their melodies, rhythms and textures, that carry us with them. The Unfolding is all of these things.
