Shinpei Nakayama Kobe Takahashi 1887 1892 1952 1970 2020
[ Explanation of the term "march" written by the translator ] The term ‘march’ originally means ‘a piece of music composed to accompany marching or with a rhythm suggestive of marching’, but decades ago pieces of music attached to interludes between movies in theaters in Kobe, Kyoto and Osaka, were called ‘march’ and became popular. Since then the term was widely used as something rhapsodic in local-news pages or titles of movies and records. [ Music Information ] Tokyo March(東京行進曲) Composed br Shinpei Nakayama (中山晋平 1887-1952) Lyrics by Yaso Saijyou (西條八十 1892-1970) Recording 29th Jan. 2020 at Creative Pot Egota Studio Soprano : Eriko Iida Arr. & Pf. : Yunosuke Takahashi Image movie location : Tokyo (Ginza, Marunouchi, Yaesu, Asakusa, Shinjuku) Lyric translator : Prof. Kimio Takahashi [ Arranged sheet music (Shop) ] (http•••) [ Lyrics ] The willows in Ginza make us feel nostalgic for The days when frisky fresh girls then, coquettish elder women now whom no one knows, Broke loose from all restrains Dancing to the sound of jazz, sitting up with liquor late at night, Ending in shedding tears like rain. Behind those office windows of the Marunouchi Buildings Which accommodate lots of young lovers, Someone might write a letter with tears in one’s eyes. Let’s keep roses which happened to be picked up during rush hours As a token to remember the lover. Tokyo is, in a way, little and narrow because of love, Though it seems to be vast and boundless. Let’s have a secret meeting at the chic Asakusa, You by way of the subway, me bus ride. No one would find it ever possible to control passage of love. Shall we see a movie, or shall we have tea? Or better yet, we would rather run away together From Shinjuku by way of Odakyu Line. The same moon rising over the Musashino forests Come out also over a department store in ever-changing Shinjuku. Nagayo Motoori Yamada Nakayama Shinpei Hirota 1885 1945
Nagayo Motoori was born in 1885 into a family descended from the famous scholar of Japanese literature, Norinaga Motoi, and was raised to be a scholar of Japanese literature, but instead, he decided to become a musician and entered the Tokyo Music School. At the school, he studied under Koda Nobu, who was Japan's first scholarship student to study Western music, and graduated at the top of her class. One of his classmates was composer Yamada Kosaku. He remained at his alma mater, working as an assistant and aiming to become a pianist, but due to the aftereffects of his illness, he gave this up to concentrate on composition. He then formed the "Kisaragi-sha" with his students Nakayama Shinpei and Hirota Ryutaro, and began to focus on the so-called new folk song movement. One of the genius singers who came and went with him at this time was Ichiro Fujiyama, and inevitably Nagayo Motoori laid the foundation for the differentiation of popular songs, children's songs, shoka, and Japanese songs. He went on to write many more children's songs, which were sung by many children through children's magazines, making his fame known and establishing his presence as a great authority on children's songs. It is unlikely that anyone born in Japan would have grown up without being exposed to the nursery rhymes written by Motoori Nagayo. For this reason, his works are filled with a large number of nursery rhymes, and his other works are not known. His early piano works, such as "Variations on a Song of Counting," show that he was an extremely talented composer and that he was not a person who should have been confined to children's songs. It is not clear whether the piano score is a drawing before orchestration or a reduced version after completion as an chamber orchestral piece, but it is one of his precious instrumental pieces that have been published. It is one of his rare instrumental pieces that has been published. The piece is written with the idea of a waltz between the introduction and the coda, and it is written in a solid romantic style. It is certainly full of sounds that indicate that it is an orchestral piece, but its world can be fully expressed as a piano piece as well, and it is a milestone masterpiece from the dawn of Western music in Japan that should be known and played by more people. Nagayo Motoori passed away in 1945. This video was made with the help of the Nagoya U. Composers Club. 00:00 Opening 00:14 Snow Night Fantasy 名大作曲同好会 (http•••) #Classic #Japanese #Rare
