Musikalische Leitung: Stefan Soltesz Inszenierung: Michael Sturminger Ausstattung: Renate Martin + Andreas Donhauser Choreographie: Craig Revel Horwood Sylva: Bea Robein, Mezzosopran Edwin: Peter Bording, Bariton Boni: Albrecht Kludszuweit, Tenor Stasi: Astrid Kropp-Menéndez, Sopran Feri: Günter Kiefer, Bariton Premiere 20. März 2010 TRANSLATION: She is much loved, enticing and peppy: the operetta „Die Csárdásfürstin" by the Hungarian composer Emmerich Kálmán. After an absence of a good 25 years, it can be seen again at Aalto-Theatre, Essen. A wonderful an grabbing love story is being told here. The young aristocratic princes son Edwin has lost his heart completely to variety singer Sylva Varescu. Head over heels they marry, without have the slightest inkling of which entanglements and what kind of an emotional roller coaster they trigger by doing so. Producer Michael Sturminger wanted more than to just showcase the widely know hits of this operetta as humorous and entertaining as possible. He wanted to bring the hidden seriousness of the music to life. The idea was to set the piece 1940 in the Third Reich in Vienna and Budapest. As love story between a Wehrmacht officer and a Jewish singer, who must emigrate to America. In other words, to give this love story much bigger hurdles to take, in order to open it to additional dimensions. Sturminger: "In this work it's all about acknowledgement. Sylva is not prepared to marry her Edwin in the second act, if he won't acknowledge her and her history. By setting it in the Third Reich, this of course gaines even more explosiveness, because acknowledging to that was indeed life-endangering." Despite the cheery sounds of the waltz, time and again one senses the riskiness and danger of the situation. Time presses, the decampment is imminent. And then there is the old princess, who courageously ends the dark haunt, thus giving the love between Sylva and Edwin a future - wherever in the world it may be.
