Mezzo soprano Tichina Vaughn sings "My Man's Gone Now" from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and "O don fatale" from Verdi's Don Carlo for the great Leontyne Price in a Masterclass sponsored by the Richard Tucker Foundation at Carnegie Hall on November 20, 1995. She is accompanied by conductor and accompanist Neal Goren, Founding Artistic Director of Gotham Chamber Opera. Ms. Price's wisdom and encouragement are priceless and timeless. In regards to the sound quality, the original recording has been digitalized from cassette and bears the hallmarks of it's origins.

Daniel Catan's opera "La Hija de Rappaccini" (Rappaccini's Daughter), based on the story by Nathaniel Hawthorne and the play by Octavio Paz. Set during the Italian Renaissance, Giovanni, a young medical student, falls in love with Beatriz, the daughter of Dr. Rappaccini. Set within a magical garden, Beatriz is torn by the will of her father and her feelings for Giovanni. Prior to founding Brooklyn Duo and Brooklyn Classical, Marnie spent three years as principal pianist of the New World Symphony in Miami under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. In high demand as a pianist in New York City, she worked with several opera companies, including the Gotham Chamber Opera, and was also on staff as a collaborative pianist at The Juilliard School after graduating. Recent performances have taken her to Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Merkin Hall, where her performance with cellist Matthew Zalkind for the Concert Artists Guild competition was broadcast live on WFMT radio. Originally from Vancouver, BC, Marnie has been the recipient of numerous Canadian awards, including top prizes from the Canadian Music Competitions, Canadian Music Teachers' Association, and the BC Arts Council. Most notably she was awarded the Gold Medal for the highest mark in Canada on the A.R.C.T. piano performance exams. She made her solo orchestral debut at age 13 with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and has participated in the Tanglewood, Music Academy of the West, Kneisel Hall, and Banff summer festivals. Marnie received her Master’s degree in collaborative piano from The Juilliard School, where she was the recipient of a full scholarship as well as the Orchestral Piano Fellowship. She also has a Master’s in solo piano performance from The University of British Columbia. Her principal teachers include Lorraine Ambrose, Robin Wood, Jane Coop, Jonathan Feldman, and Margo Garrett. #BrooklynClassical

Emerging Artist Recital Series Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition Winnter John Brancy, baritone Peter Dugan, pianist Baritone John Brancy, winner of the 2015 Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition, was recently seen onstage at the National Opera Center as a winner of the 2013 Music Academy of the West Marilyn Horne Song Competition. He has performed with Oper Frankfurt, Gotham Chamber Opera, OPERA San Antonio and Opera Saratoga. In the 2015–2016 season, Brancy will sing Malatesta in Don Pasquale with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera Tour, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Pacific Opera Victoria. The Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition, founded in 2000, supports young artists pursuing careers in opera while following the philanthropic vision of the foundation to support the musical arts. Since its inception, the competition has awarded more than $500,000 to 99 singers.
