Cellists of Otago in Concert for Ukraine Dunedin Town Hall July 2022 Cellists of Otago, directed by Heleen du Plessis, is a community ensemble of cellists based in Dunedin, New Zealand. It comprises of University of Otago students, Dunedin Symphony Orchestra cellists, High School pupils and community cellists. The aim of the group is to provide a platform for members to develop musicianship and performance skills and foster participation, while enjoying and sharing the love and appreciation of cello and music-making. The group purposefully engages in social events that bring people together and enhance their sense of connection. This live, impromptu recording was made at a performance as part of ‘Concert for Ukraine’ in the Dunedin Town Hall, July 2022. The event, initiated by Angelika Irma Treschl and organised by City Choir Dunedin raised over $15 000 for the NZ Red Cross’ response in Ukraine. The outpour of love, care and sense of solidarity from all involved was tangible. Abendlied (Evening Song) by Rheinberger +••.••(...)), arranged for cello sextet by Valter Dešpalj.
