Beethoven Philippe Jordan Anja Kampe Daniela Sindram Burkhart René Pape Prinz Wiener Symphoniker 1808 2019 2020
Order now: (http•••) It is done: On 6th September 2019, with the release of the recording of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony under Philippe Jordan, the first cycle of Beethoven’s symphonies with the Wiener Symphoniker recorded on CD will finally be available. This release will also mark the end of project Road to Beethoven with which the Wiener Symphoniker is preparing for the anniversary year 2020 on the occasion of the composer’s 250th birthday. The timeless and last completed Symphony No. 9 by the Viennese by choice represents the logical culmination of this recording project. Judging by the size of the orchestra and the diversity of the instruments involved, the “Ninth” burst the dimensions of classical symphonies, opened up new compositional and musical spaces and set the standards for symphonic classical music that are valid to this day. Philippe Jordan and the Wiener Symphoniker were supported by a fantastic solo ensemble including Anja Kampe, Daniela Sindram, Burkhart Fritz, René Pape, and the Wiener Symphoniker under the direction of Johannes Prinz. The release of the CD will, of course, not be the end of the Orchestra’s focus on Ludwig van Beethoven’s oeuvre: Being the central orchestra for the celebrations of the City of Vienna on the occasion of Beethoven’s anniversary year in 2020, the Wiener Symphoniker under Philippe Jordan will again commit itself to his symphonies, including the reconstruction of the legendary “Academy” of 1808, directed by Beethoven himself. The CD will be released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on 6th September 2019. The recording will then be available on iTunes and on Apple Music, Amazon and from well-assorted specialist retail shops. For further information, please refer to www.wienersymphoniker.at.
Beethoven Vladimir Ashkenazy Burkhart 1770 1798 1799 1827
Adagio cantabile, second movement from Piano Sonata No. 8, Op. 13 "Pathétique" Vladimir Ashkenazy, piano Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, commonly known as Sonata Pathétique, was written in 1798 when the composer was 27 years old, and was published in 1799. Beethoven dedicated the work to his friend Prince Karl von Lichnowsky. Although commonly thought to be one of the few works to be named by the composer himself, it was actually named Grande sonate pathétique (to Beethoven's liking) by the publisher, who was impressed by the sonata's tragic sonorities. The Adagio movement opens with a famous cantabile melody. This theme is played three times, always in A-flat major, separated by two modulating episodes. The first episode is set in F minor (parallel to A-flat major), further modulating to E-flat major before returning to the main theme. The second episode begins in A-flat minor and modulates to E major. With the final return of the main theme, the accompaniment becomes richer and takes on the triplet rhythm of the second episode.
