Gertrude Grob Prandl Karl Terkal 1956
It is often said the huge soprano would shake the walls when singing Turandot. This is Grob-Prandl in the outro to the puzzle scene, in what I believe is her most recently recorded Turandot available (1956). Extremely thrilling top notes, even if the vibrato might be an acquired taste. I believe this has not been uploaded on YouTube previously, but please correct me if I am wrong. Turandot: Gertrude Grob-Prandl Calaf: Karl Terkal Conductor: Mario Rossie
Puccini Grob Prandl Terkal Lotte Rysanek Rysanek Greindl Waechter Vienna State Opera 1956
Act 2(i): 00.31.44 Act 2 (ii): 00.46.06 Act 3 (i): 01.15.32 Act 3 (ii): 01.46.35 Having just uploaded the Remington, studio recording of Turandot with Grob-Prandl in the title role in an Italian language performance, I notice that no one has posted the complete live performance sung in German from the Vienna State Opera in 1956. Grob-Prandl’s voice is rather better caught, and the sound is very acceptable, though there are moments of odd balance and vocal distancing which suggests that the performance was recorded by a single mic suspended above the orchestra at the top of the proscenium. Interesting to hear the sisterly vocal resemblance between Lotte Rysanek’s Liu and Leonie, who also sang Turandot in those days. The sisters both sang in the same performance on 23 June 1956.
