FIFTEEN MINUTES OF FAME, NEW YORK - Live recording from Javier Pérez Garrido´s concert: "Romances for solo clarinet" (World Premiere!) February, 2014 - All compositions have been composed for and dedicated to Javier Pérez Garrido. / Romance, for solo clarinet a "Romance" is a simple, lyrical, and tender piece for clarinet composed in 2013. It highlights the various dramatic aspects of the instrument in a language that shadows the sound of improvisation. Adam Torkelson studied sonata and orchestral composition with John Bavicchi at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Throughout his career, he has composed concert music, film scores, and jazz charts. He plays piano in a professional jazz quartet and lives in Houston, TX. Composer/Arranger, Conductor, Clarinetist & Music Educator Javier Pérez Garrido holds an Advanced Degree in Clarinet Performance (2008) and Composition (2010) from the Conservatory of Murcia, Spain. He has been given performance and composition awards in several national and international music competitions including the Gold and Bronze Medals at Global Music Awards from California and the Hollywood Music in Media Awards from Los Ángeles. Javier has played as soloist with many of the most important youth wind and symphonic orchestras around Europe. Since 1998, he has composed nearly 100 works including solo, chamber, ensemble, choir, wind orchestra and orchestra pieces. The performers: Kirsten Yon, Violin Andy Liang, Violin Yvonne Smith, Viola Matt Kufzhak, Violoncello The title refers to a fictional location in Massachusetts that first appeared in a famous science fiction novella by H.P. Lovecraft. About the composer: Adam Torkelson is an international award-winning composer of concert music. His education includes graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where his teachers included John Bavicchi, Thomas Allen LeVines, and Gregory Fritze. He played Tuba in the Concert Band, Berklee Studio Orchestra, Brass Choir, as well as many recording sessions. From 1998 through 2006, Mr. Torkelson lived in Los Angeles, CA where he wrote several original film scores. Since 2006, he has played piano for a professional jazz quartet at over 50 events per year. In addition to classical composition, Adam has composed and recorded two albums of original jazz compositions. In addition to a degree in music, he has a degree in Accounting and works for a midsized firm in Houston. He is an active member of the American Composers Forum. Javier emplea su clarinete para demostrarnos como actúa el cerebro humano ante la estimulación musical. Nos explica como la música nos enseña a aprender y como nos puede ayudar a mejorar en otras facetas de nuestra vida. Javier cree que la música debe ser un instrumento para favorecer el aprendizaje y que su eliminación o reducción en las escuelas es un mal camino para una formación integral. Compositor, director, clarinetista y profesor, ha sido galardonado en más de 20 diferentes ocasiones, incluyendo las Medallas de Oro y Bronce en los Global Music Awards y las nominaciones oficiales a los Hollywood Music in Media Awards o los Jerry Goldsmith Awards, entre otros. Ha recibido encargos de músicos e instituciones de todo el mundo como el International Trumpet Guild, la European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, etc. Ha sido clarinetista de la European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, la Joven Orquesta Nacional de España o la Orquesta de Jóvenes de la Región de Murcia, entre otras, y como solista cabe destacar su recital para la organización neoyorkina Fifteen Minutes of Fame.
