This is a clip from New Generation Opera's performance of Don Giovanni, streamed live at (http•••) Upcoming streams: August 22 and August 24, 2013, with free 10 minute previews! / The incorrigible ladies man. His victims. The inevitability of destruction. Mozart's classic opera offers a framework for an emerging generation of musicians to forge a new form of expression. The light-hearted charm and comedy of this riveting score are used to good effect to depict a community morally adrift. In this modern take, affluent young people party and photograph and film themselves and each other endlessly. Even death itself is reduced to the role of a jester. The drama finds itself tantalisingly placed in the middle ground between comedy and tragedy, burlesque and grotesque. It derives its power from a roll call of fresh young vocal talent and complex video projection. The production is a theatrical opera but also a live film projected simultaneously onto two screens. W.
