Over the last year Benjamin has won 1st Prize at the 2016 Young Concert Artists auditions in New York and 3rd Prize at the Michael Hill Competition in New Zealand, establishing a strong international presence. Engagements this season include debut recitals at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Merkin Concert Hall in New York, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany and 3 Palaces Festival in Malta. He returns to Wigmore Hall and undertakes tours of the US, China, Argentina and Chile. Highlights during 2016/17 included appearances as soloist with the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, Auckland Philharmonia, English Chamber, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Sinfonia Cymru, Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese L’Aquila in Italy and Maui Pops Orchestras. He premiered a new Concerto Stranded by Matthew Kaner for Europe Day at St. John’s Smith Square and returned as Fellow to the Steans Music Institute in Ravinia. Benjamin has given recitals at festivals across Europe including the Pärnu, Steirisches Kammermusik, Gstaad, Klosters, Salisbury, Bath, Cheltenham, Buxton, Northern Chords and East Neuk Festivals. He has appeared as soloist with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company and toured throughout New Zealand. In 2015 he released his first CD for Champs Hill Records which immediately went to No.12 in the Classical Charts. Born in 1990 in New Zealand, Benjamin studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music where he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Rose Bowl. He was selected by Young Classical Artists Trust in 2013 and in the same year won 1st Prize at the Windsor International Competition. Hugely popular in New Zealand Benjamin returns whenever he is able, to give concerts and appear on radio and television. He moved to the UK in 1998 with his family to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School, on the recommendation of Nigel Kennedy. He is very grateful to be awarded Honorary Membership of the Rotary Club of Port Nicholson for his commitment to children’s charities. Benjamin plays on a Tononi violin (1709) on generous loan from a private individual. He is grateful for support from the Wallace Foundation.

JEAN-PAUL GASPARIAN, PIANISTE Jean-Paul vient de faire paraître son troisième album solo pour le label Evidence Classics. Cet enregistrement est entièrement consacré à Rachmaninoff, compositeur avec lequel il entretient une affinité élective depuis de longues années. Au printemps 2019, la sortie de son album Chopin avait été accueillie avec enthousiasme par la presse internationale (« A Major Chopin Release » - International Piano Magazine, « A Highly Accomplished Chopinist » - BBC Music Magazine). En février 2020 il s’est vu décerner le Prix Thierry-Scherz aux Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, ce qui lui a offert l’enregistrement d’un CD avec l'Orchestre symphonique de Berne pour le label Claves, incluant le Concerto pour piano n.2 de Rachmaninoff et la Ballade Héroïque d'Arno Babadjanian (parution en mars 2022). Jean-Paul est nommé aux Victoires de la musique classique 2021 dans la catégorie Révélation soliste instrumental. Parmi les projets importants de la saison 2021/2022, Jean-Paul a été le soliste d'une tournée de plusieurs concerts avec l'Orchestre National d'Ile-de-France (sous la direction du chef vénézuélien d'Ilych Rivas) - tournée qui a débuté par un concert dans la Grande Salle Pierre Boulez de la Philharmonie de Paris le 13 mai 2022. Jean-Paul est le vainqueur du prestigieux Concours Européen de Brême (Allemagne) en 2014, mais également lauréat des concours Internationaux José Iturbi (Espagne) en 2015, GPIPL de Lyon (France) et Hastings (Angleterre) en 2013. Il remporte le prix de la Fondation Cziffra en 2014 et devient Lauréat de la Fondation l’Or du Rhin en octobre 2016. Le 1er Prix de Philosophie au Concours Général des Lycéens de France lui est attribué en 2013. Parmi les orchestres qui l’ont accompagné en soliste, citons : Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France, Bremer Philharmoniker, Berner Symphonieorchester, Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Musikkollegium Winterthur, National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Región de Murcia, Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra, RTS Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen, Orchestre Régional de Normandie, Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, Orchestre de Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Orchestre Symphonique de Caen... En janvier 2018 il a remplacé au pied levé le célèbre pianiste Christian Zacharias dans le 24ème Concerto de Mozart sous la direction du grand chef autrichien Leopold Hager à la Stadthalle de Chemnitz. Jean-Paul s’est produit en récital ou avec orchestre à la Philharmonie de Paris, Salle Gaveau, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Auditorium de la Maison de la Radio, Salle Molière (dans le cadre de la série Piano à Lyon), Tonhalle de Zürich, Laeiszhalle de Hambourg, Die Glocke de Brême, Mozarteum de Salzbourg, Kolarac de Belgrade, et dans des festivals tels que La Roque d’Anthéron, Festival Radio-France de Montpellier, Festival de Menton, Piano aux Jacobins, Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo, Festival de l’Épau, Lisztomanias, Les Flâneries de Reims, Piano Folies du Touquet, Nohant Chopin Festival, Les Solistes à Bagatelle, Festival International de Colmar, Les Grands Crus Musicaux, L’Esprit du piano, Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, Piano à Saint-Ursanne, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Kissinger Sommer Festival, Armenia International Music Festival. Par ailleurs, le Festival Chopin de Nohant a publié un album d’archives dédié à Aldo Ciccolini, dans lequel est incluse la Sonate en sol mineur de Schumann enregistrée en live par Jean-Paul Gasparian (édition 2015). Le Magazine Classica a décerné à l’album son Choc du Mois et placé Jean-Paul parmi les 10 pianistes les plus prometteurs de la jeune génération. Né en 1995 à Paris de parents musiciens, Jean-Paul Gasparian est admis à l’unanimité au CNSM de Paris à 14 ans, où il obtient brillamment son Master en 2015. Ses professeurs sont Olivier Gardon, Jacques Rouvier, Michel Béroff, Laurent Cabasso. Après un 3ème cycle au CNSMDP avec Michel Dalberto et Claire Désert, ainsi qu’au Royal College of Music de Londres avec Vanessa Latarche (Artist Diploma), il se perfectionne auprès d’Elisso Virsaladze en Italie. Il reçoit également, depuis plusieurs années, les conseils réguliers de Tatiana Zelikman lors de masterclasses à l'étranger. Jean-Paul est artiste en résidence à la Fondation Singer-Polignac, lauréat de l'Académie musicale de villecroze, soutenu par les fondations Safran et ADAMI pour la Musique. Il est également, depuis l’été 2017, un Artiste Steinway.

Am 25. November präsentierte die Intendantin der Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Dr. Ursula Haselböck, das Programm für den Festspielsommer 2022. Maßgeblich prägen wird dieses der Preisträger in Residence, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. Mit im Gepäck hat der 26-jährige gebürtige Österreicher ein ganz besonderes Instrument, Mozarts Violine.
