Fukushima Heinrich Werkmeister Werkmeister 1890 1907 1911 1913 1933 1985
The composer Tsune Matsushima was born on February 14, 1890, in Yamagata Prefecture. Her father was a judge, and she was born in Yamagata City, where her father served as a judge. After studying at Fukushima Girls' School in Fukushima, she entered the Tokyo Music School in 1907, an advance of what is now the Tokyo University of the Arts, where she graduated in 1911 with a major in piano. She studied composition under a foreign teacher, Heinrich Werkmeister, who was teaching composition in Japan at the time, and completed her studies at the piano in 1913. Although she was born in the Meiji era, the fact that she planned to study abroad shows her great talent. Although she had to give up her plans to study abroad for various reasons, she was active in presenting her works at her alma mater and at the Imperial Hotel, and served as a professor at the Women's Gakushuin. She lived in a corner of a temple in Kamakura and immersed herself in the study of Buddhist music in her later years. She is said to have left behind numerous works, more than 1,000 pieces in fact, and it is said that she wrote about 13 piano sonatas. This piano sonata in C major, written in 1933, seems to be her seventh sonata and is considered to be Op. 159. It appeared in several issues of "Nippon Composition Yearbook" published by the Japan Federation of Composers, and the title of one of them was written "Sonata Continuation", which caused some confusion, however, I have conducted my personal research, and since common themes were confirmed, I have decided to write this sonata as a set of sonatas. I have decided to introduce it as a Sonata. Although it enters with Japanese material, there are many technical details that remind us of the German Romanticism, and we can feel the influence of the master. The high degree of perfection of this classical sonata form, which includes a minuet in all four movements, is astonishing considering the time period. She led the world of classical music in Japan at the dawn of the era and died on October 9, 1985 at the age of 95. This video was made with the help of the Nagoya U. 1966 1884 Tsune Matsushima Indy Vincent Indy Komatsu
Kosuke Komatsu was born in Akita, Japan in 1884. He studied violin with Nobu Koda, a pioneer in the history of Western music in Japan, and piano and composition with Hermann Heydrich, and composed an opera three years later, which shows his great musical talent. After graduating from the school, he went to France to study under Vincent d'Indy and others, where he learned the authentic Western classical language, and returned to Japan to promote music through choral singing. He returned to Japan and devoted himself to the promotion of music through choral singing. He held various important positions and was a major driving force in the music world of Japan in its early days. Most of his works are shoka and nursery rhymes, which are typical of his activities in familiar social music, but a few of his instrumental pieces show that he actually had very high ability. In particular, this piano sonata is written in a completely Romantic style, with the first movement showing the mainstream of German Romanticism and the second movement showing a hint of French spirit. The first movement is in the mainstream of German Romanticism, while the second movement has a hint of French esprit de corps. The four-movement form with a minuet in between is a perfectly completed and wonderful piano sonata, and it is amazing that it was written by a composer of this period. In the dawn of Japanese classical music, it is a masterpiece along with the violin sonata by Nobu Koda and the piano sonata by Tsune Matsushima. I hope that this work will be reevaluated and performed more often, but it may be a problem that the hurdle to obtaining the score is very high. Kosuke Komatsu passed away in 1966 at the age of 81.
