As most music lovers know, this year we are celebrating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. And certainly the market will be filled with amazing offerings of recorded performances. Today we have for you a new recording of: Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 & Choral Fantasy Artists: Christiana Karg (soprano), Sophie Harmsen (mezzo), Werner Güra (tenor), Florian Boesch (baritone), Kristian Bezuidenhout (fortepiano) Freiburger Barockorchester, Zürcher Sing-Akademie, Pablo Heras-Casado. The Sunday Times wrote about this recording that: “the intricate, incisive rhythms, the clarity that makes Beethoven’s revolutionary scoring endlessly startling (thrillingly prominent horns and bassoons), and the inspired soloists and chorus…” Here

Freiburger Barockorchester, Heras-Casado : Beethoven Choral Fantasy and Symphony no 9
[…] the originality of Beethoven's writing for the two female roles, who areb miucjh more developed than in the 1814 version. It is essential listening. The Freiburger Barockorchester have also recently released a new recording of Beethoven's Piano Concertos no 2 and 5 "The Emperor" with Kristian Bezuindenhout and Pablo Heras-Casado.The superb playing of the Freiburger Barockorchester is enhanced by Heras-Casado's direct, vivid style, and by the quality of the soloists, Christine Karg, Sophie Harmsen, Werner Güra and Florian Boesch. Their voices are exceptionally well-balanced, and operate in consort with each other, which is also part of underlying meaning. Not a weak link here, as is sometimes the case with lesser performances. The choir is the Zürcher Sing-Akademie, also very rewarding.
