It’s a cold, snowy day here in Chicago, and it got me thinking about one of my favorite seasonal Classical pieces, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Here’s some cool animation done with sand by a Hungarian named Ferenc Cako: This does a nice job of illustrating Vivaldi’s work, which I’ve always thought is very narrative. I know, SLOW DOWN THERE, soldier, this ain’t a classical music blog. Fair enough. But it really is quite amazing the level of detail this guy achieves by tossing sand across a light board. And the fact that it’s a kind of “live” animation (you can see his hands as he works) makes it all the more impressive for the elegance of his motions. It’s almost like choreography in some bits.
